The Gekko Group was founded in 1996. Gekko has an international reputation for innovation and has welcomed the challenge of creating a solution to the dire lack of ventilators across the world which has been highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In March 2020 Gekko have formed a response group seeking to both deliver a viable and suitable invasive ventilator for use in Victorian and other medical/response facilities. This was the beginning of Gekko Medical, an agile, high-quality and innovative company.
In creating the final GeVentor design, the company has cycled through numerous prototypes of the ventilator. The Gekko team is now preparing for volume manufacture.
The company is based in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia and all our devices are Australian made and designed.

Sandy Gray is co-founder and Director of Gekko Medical. He is responsible for the design of the GeVentor.
Sandy is a recipient of the prestigious Clunies Ross Award, Australia’s pre-eminent award for scientists, technologists and innovators. Other awards he has received include the AusIMM Mineral Operating Technique Award, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Technology, Communications, E-commerce & Life Sciences – Southern Region), the Victorian Premier’s Design Award in 2010 for the Python low height modular plant and received the Professional Excellence Award 2017 The AusIMM
In recent years Sandy’s main focus has been on improving plant economics incorporating technologies/flowsheets which focus on overall plant productivity improvements in energy, reagents, and medical equipment.
Sandy’s career includes the introduction of intensive cyanidation for the recovery of gravity gold concentrates into the gold industry through the development of the InLine Leach Reactor. This technology is now used throughout the world in most gold mines with gravity circuits. Another achievement is the application of VSI (vertical shaft impact) technology to improve pre-concentration outcomes through a focus on liberation characteristics. This was used originally as a stop-gap for HPGR, but Sandy believes it will become a standard metallurgical tool for those trying to optimise liberation.
